Heat Related Disorders:  Symptoms and dangers

Symptoms: Skin redness and pain possible swelling and/or blisters
Fever
Headaches
Dangers: Sunburn slows the skin's ability to cool itself
First Aid: Take a shower, using soap, to remove oils that may block pores(thus  preventing the body from cooling naturally.)
If blisters occur, apply dry, sterile dressings and get immediate medical attention.

Symptoms: Painful spasms usually in leg and abdominal muscles.
Heavy sweating.
First Aid: Apply firm pressure to the cramping muscles or gently massage them to relieve the  spasms.
Give sips of water. If nausea occurs, discontinue use.

Symptoms: Heavy sweating
Weakness
Cold, pale and clammy skin
Weak pulse
Normal body temperature possible.
Fainting or vomiting may occur.
First Aid: Get the victim out of the sun and have him/her lie down in a cool place.
Loosen clothing.
Apply cool, wet cloths.
Fan or move victim to air-conditioned place.
Give sips of water. If nausea occurs, discontinue. If vomiting occurs, seek immediate medical attention.

Symptoms:   High body temperature (106F or higher)
Hot, dry skin
Rapid, strong pulse
Possible unconsciousness
Victim will probably not sweat
Dangers: Death
First Aid: Heat stroke is a serious medical emergency.
Call 9-1-1 for emergency medical services or get the victim to a hospital immediately.
Delay can be fatal.
While waiting for help, move victim to a cooler environment.
Try to reduce body temperature:
            Remove clothing and give a a cool bath or sponging.
            Use fans and/or air conditioners.
DO NOT GIVE FLUIDS.
